March 5, 2015

The March meeting was our auction night. Minutes and committee reports were dispensed with so as to get the auction started right away. A few announcements were made beforehand as well as show and tell.

The fair is earlier this year. Entries will be able to be dropped off the Sunday evening before and Monday am. Entries will be judged Monday afternoon. More details when we get closer to Fair dates.

Anyone interested in forming a monthly group, similar to the former Queen Bees, to work on common projects? Let Nancy know.

Nancy is finally ready to have an open house for her new Retreat Center. This will occur on May 3rd in the afternoon (1:30 to 4:30 pm). Any name suggestions can be given to Nancy. It will be nice to have a retreat so close by. Space is limited for each retreat - Nancy will give more details later.

Bartlesville is having a quilt show at the Dewey Fairground July 10 and 11th. Peggy has forms if anyone is interested in entering a quilt.

Next month is our annual Spring Tea. It will start at 6:30 pm. The committee is providing all the food. Let someone on the committee know if you are planning to attend and if you will be bringing a guest. Otherwise, just come and enjoy!

Jenna made some more quilts for kids to donate. She said the local hospitals are willing to accept them. The decision to make this a group project has been passed off to the Donation Committee.

It was decided to increase the Guild's monthly rent to Nancy from $15 to $20.

Dues are due in May. They are $20.

A challenge was issued for the May meeting. Everyone who wanted to participate was given a sheet of paper with a color listed on it. (If you did not receive one and want to participate, talk to Nancy). The color listed is a secondary color (green, purple or orange). The challenge is to create a finished piece using only the secondary color plus the two primary colors that make up that color (green plus blue and yellow; purple plus blue and red; orange plus yellow and red). No other colors are allowed, though you may use as many shades of the assigned colors as you want. The whole piece must be no larger than 60" total circumference (15" square inches). It does not have to be square, but the size cannot be larger than 60". You must use a technique that is new to you and the project must be finished.

The last two blocks in the block of the month were assigned (I erroneously listed in last month's blog that we had 3 more blocks to go - sorry!). The twelve total blocks must be assembled with sashing and cornerstones, as well as border by May in order to be eligible for the prize drawing. Several people have kept up each month and it will be exciting to see how everyone's tops turn out.

Seven people participated in the brown bag challenge. The bags were only exchanged four times. There was not an ugly one in the bunch. Each person saw their completed top at the guild night for the first time.

Gloria made some coasters, mug rugs, and a Grandma's Buttons

Karen Taylor made plenty of bean bags

Our auctioneers for the evening were Taylor and Kirstin. They worked hard and we appreciate their efforts - especially when the bidding seemed to be going slow. Thank you girls.

My apologies for the poor quality of some of these picture. In the future when doing show and tell, please show then pose!

See you at the Spring Tea!

February 5, 2015

There will be an auction at the March meeting. Bring your donations to be auctioned to the Bin before the meeting. On auction night bring your money and your competitive spirit. Proceeds go to the itchin for stitchin guild. All sales final. Please smile if you receive more than you bid on.

UFO challenge continues. Bring any project you began before 2015 yet finished in 2015 to show and tell. Each project qualifies for one chance to enter your name in the draw box. More projects = more chances to win. However, each person who enters still has a chance. 3 entries will be drawn at the end of 2015 for a cash prize. You can clean up your UFOs and have a chance to buy more stuff! What could be better?

BOM this month uses four colors plus your background color. There are lots of triangles! Only 3 blocks left to make. We will have 2 blocks assigned in March and 1 in April. All blocks must be assembled and shown in May. Sashing between blocks is 2 1/2 "with 2 1/2 " cornerstones. A 5" border will then be sewn around the whole top.

Jenna showed 4 throws she made for donation quilts. She received the pattern and fabric from a pediatric charity. After making two from their fabric, she made two more from her own stash. The guild talked about the possibility of starting a chapter here or donating throws to a nearby facility. Jenna will find more information and discussion will follow later.

Becky showed a stocking cap she made and a quilt made from a pattern called 'loose change'.

Linda showed a five and dime quilt.

Nita showed filet crochet and a green doily.

Sue showed a small quilt to lay down when changing a diaper.

Carolyn Green showed a doll's bed quilt and pillow. She has an antique doll's bed at home to display it.

Ruth showed a table runner and quilt.

Peggy showed a wall hanging and throw.

Nancy showed some coasters and quilt (square dance)

Gloria showed a basket weave table runner, hot pads, a wall hanging, cozy, and a five and dime quilt.

Carol showed a wonky tree, a quilt with pillow and  an infinity scarf.

People have been busy!

Peggy presented the program - 4 seasons quilt block. Using 3 charm packs of light fabric and 3 charm packs of dark fabric, she made a 55" x 77" quilt. No sashing required.
