May 3, 2012
Ashley McCoy was a guest at our May meeting. She brought us information about the upcoming "Quilts by the Diamond" Quilt Show to be held in Mound Valley on June 23, 2012. Entries may be brought to the Lighthouse Church from 8:30-9:30 am. The three categories are: Baby/Children's Quilt, Decorative Quilt, and Miscellaneous quilted project. A viewer' choice winner will be chosen in each category, with a $25 gift certificate award. She encouraged us all to bring our entries.
The 2012 new officers were approved. They will begin their term at the June meeting. The new year for the guild is starting, so everyone needs to get their dues paid. The sign-up sheets were out to sign up for committees, programs, and hospitality. Everyone needs to get signed up so that the new program can be put together. If you missed signing up, let Nancy know what you would like to do.
In committee reports, Nita reminded us that our 12 1/2" unfinished birthday quilt blocks were due by the next meeting.
Arlene will be in charge of the newsletter for next year. If anyone wants the newsletter mailed to them, they need to give her 12 self-addressed stamped envelopes.
The guilt voted to have another auction next February. We also voted to purchase a set of "Why Quilts Matter" Videos offered through PBS.
The guild discussed having Donna Thomas come back on October 27 for a miniature quilt workshop. Carolyn will get in contact with her to get that set up.

2012 Block of the Month
Carolyn Green gave a program about prayer flags. She asked that each member make a prayer flag for the block of the month for June. She handed out instructions and the base material. She challenged everyone to try a new technique with fabric and fiber to create a flag that can be used to promote guild activities.
Carolyn showed us three flags that she had made using applique, embroidery, and printing on dryer sheets.
