March 9, 2012
The Donna Lynn Thomas Trunk Show was a real treat. We learned about how to select fabrics using three basic color concepts. She was so friendly and fun as she told us how she came to be a quilter, designer, and educator. She showed us many of her beautiful quilts and explained how she had chosen the colors to add interest and depth to the patterns.

Saturday, March 10: Donna Lynn Thomas Workshop

Donna Thomas with the Blackford Blue Quilt, from her book "Flip Your Way to Fabulous Quilts" (copyright 2011, That Patchwork Place, Martingale & Company)
We learned to make folded corners to make striped rectangles. The fabrics changed from light to dark on the blocks.
Donna also shared some basic sewing techniques with us. Some of the tips were fairly simple, but will be a big help for future sewing projects.

We all enjoyed the day. Of course, we did manage to work some eating into the day. We started the morning with warm peach cobbler. For lunch we had some beef & noodles, green beans with ham, and some FABULOUS desserts.

It was a good day. The sewing went well, the food was delicious, and we spent the day with friends.

Plans are being made to have Donna back in the fall.
